Born and raised in Lebanon, AbuKhalil has served as freelance Middle East consultant for NBC News and ABC News, experiences that only served to increase his disdain for the mainstream US media, which he believes displays “more than a tinge of racism” towards Arabs. He is the author of “The Historical Dictionary of Lebanon,” “Bin Laden, Islam & America’s New ‘War on Terrorism,’ ” and “The Battle for Saudi Arabia.” He is currently professor of political science at California State University, Stanislaus, and visiting professor at UC Berkeley. I saw this at the movie theater in Lacey:
Join the National Guard - it's practically like being a race car driver or a rock star. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold it right there! - Actually, when you join the military, you will be trained to kill human beings. While there are some similarities with race car driving, the truth is that it's very, very different.

I went to Arlington Northwest at Heritage Park today. I helped set up headstones and did some photography too. I am going to post some of those photographs, and set up a flickr embed to display some more. The whole set can be found here: Arlington Northwest Iraq War Memorial 2008 There were many hands to help set up the memorial, but it still took about 5 hours just to get all the markers in place. Here's a statement published by the Veterans for Peace Rachel Corrie Chapter (VFP 109) about the Memorial:

A similar weekly vigil occurs on Wednesdays from 12 o'clock Noon until 1 pm at the corner of Capitol Way and Legion Avenue, Sylvester Park. The Wednesday vigil has been ongoing weekly for over 28 years, since March 5th, 1980. Here's me in the picture. Photo and sign by Glen Anderson of the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation. Wow, this is damning. Is it true? Did members of the Bush Administration order intelligence agencies to create false reports in order to justify invading Iraq? A lot of people have been saying that's the case (for a long time). Maybe we can get closer to the truth as a result of this Congressional Probe. If it's true, that allegations that Bush Administration officials manipulated intelligence in order to suit their private interests in a war of choice, then it certainly gives support to the local anti-war advocates who have been working so hard, and who have invested so much in protecting our troops from reckless foreign policy and the abuses of the Bush Administration. Hopefully Congress will do what is right based on the finding of this probe, and if justified, take appropriate action to protect American Soldiers from the alleged abuses of members of the Bush Administration. Olympia is fortunate to have an active and passionate resistance to the illegal and unjust wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan. The nation is in dire straits, as the following information attests to. Vincent Bugliosi, who has championed the successful prosecution of 21 murder suspects, has accused President Bush of no less than murder. I think articles like this are important background for community understanding behind certain protest actions including, but not limited to, the Port Militarization Resistance blockade campaigns:

Cindy Sheehan [link to campaign website] took the stage this past weekend at SPSCC's Minneart Center for the Arts. Those in the audience were treated to a speech about Sheehan's campaign. Some of the topics were war, foreign policy, economics, history, health-care, class division, labor, political activism, issues specific to her district, and military.
Cindy was joined on-stage by Gary Murrell [link to campaign website], who is a Green Party candidate for Washington State's 6th Congressional District. He is challenging the re-election of Congressman Norm Dicks, a 30 year veteran of the Congress. The audience was also treated to a presentation by Linda Boyd, director of Washington for Impeachment [.org]. Linda Boyd has been instrumental in lobbying for the passage of impeachment memorials in the Washington State legislature that would call on national representatives to begin investigations into impeachable offenses as they have (allegedly) been committed by members of the Bush Administration. She continues a very active promotion of impeachment, based on apparent high crimes and/or misdemeanors having been committed by members of the Bush Administration.
