To be accurate, this person is not a panhandler, he is a street performer. Go check him out most evenings along 4th Ave!
Name: Richard Age: 29 Hobbies: Music and Cooking. "Soon I'll be in an apartment and I want to go to SPSCC to study music first, then cooking. I already have 6 months of community college from Seattle, so I have a head start." Favorite Books: The Bible, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, Grimms Fairy Tales and poetry by William Blake and Jim Morrison Favorite Movies: Apocalypse Now, Young Guns, Maverick, Last of the Mohicans, Legend, The Princess Bride Richard on the difference between street performing and panhandling: "The difference is street performers actually do something, offering some skills, to not necessarily make money, but to get money. I've never asked for money while I was sitting on the street. I've been given some money for doing it, but I make a point to not sit and ask for money. The only thing I can think of that I would panhandle for is a shower. I don't think I would ask for much else. I live at Camp Quixote, so I pretty mush can get everything else. I do what I do for fun. The store owner, some of them actually like it. They say sometimes I can come play by their store anytime. It's more of a hobby an trying to make money. Lately, over by the Camp, I go play by an empty building so one one will be disturbed. As soon as I get back into school and get an apartment I'll stop because I'll be able to practice inside."

Submitted by JstPlnOnry on Fri, 03/21/2008 - 4:21pm.between reading their stories vs. walking past them on the street and wondering what their stories are.
To read their words here vs. letting my mind wander warms my heart instead of hardens it. I no longer wonder what "that guys" story is or how they ended up doing what their doing. I no longer automatically assume the worse.
After reading the 2 posts on these gentlemen, I literally want to go down and do something for them now instead of seeing them in a negative light.
You've done a great service here Future. I genuinely thank you for finding a way to give dignity and respect to those who otherwise don't get it. I also genuinely thank you for opening my eyes, giving me more perspective and warming my heart.
I absolutely echo the sentiments of the others! PLEASE keep introducing us to more people this way! We'll all benefit from it!
You are opening a lot of eyes and hearts!
