Going to a shop or business you already like is a reward unto itself-

-how can consumers get the City to listen & then reward those businesses that are drawing folks downtown with great service, great products, and great experiences?

Any ideas how local business that are making an effort to improve the scene could be rewarded?

...any thoughts?

... you mean...

... other than having to pay more in taxes ;-p??

Here is how it works, I think:

If a business does the right thing, which needs to include not just the single bottom line, but also "bettering the world", the owners should get connected in some way to the community, which will give him credibility and with that a voice and respect when it comes to public issues.

That is already a good deal of reward for me.

Now a plaque or a stickers for the window is cool too, but you can get those from the Chamber if you'd like.

A media outlet could create a "best of ...", which could mean a lot to local businesses and the community - like a good restaurant review can do wonders with your reservations for month.

So, come and buy my stuff, that's the best reward for me, hehehehee!

well, the City...

...would have to be involved in traffic changes (something we have been talking about, as an example), and that kind of thing [pedestrian-only times downtown] could be good and isn't just a tax/business issue.

I would love to talk about the ideal business model for downtown =)

Rainy 4th!

... but I think they would

... if you make yourself known in the community.

In fact I'm working on the pedestrian-only downtown.

There just can't be a law for that. Once you're that successful/respected the city HAS TO listen to you. I think that would create exactly the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

It's still a personal thing after all - In Germany they say: It's all about having VITAMIN R - for relationships. Your success is meassured on how your relationships work.

I certainly am open to continue that conversation - should we meet sometime outside the virtual world??
