A jury has been empaneled in the case of Shyam P Khanna, in an Olympia Municipal Court case being heard in Courtroom 230 upstairs at the Thurston County Courthouse beginning today. Opening arguments are at 2PM Wednesday, 29th October.

Best of luck to Shyam

Hildes.

Apparently, the judge gave the prosecutor an earful when she requested he (the judge) pre-determine what sanctions would be imposed upon Ms. Khanna's defense attorney Larry Hildes if he acted out during the proceedings. Mr. Hildes has been found in contempt at prior criminal trials involving anti-war demonstrators for some sort of outbursts.

Details?

Who's the judge? And who's the prosecutor? I don't think we should take what the prosecutor says about Mr. Hildes too seriously -- she is, after all, an adversary. If I recall correctly, prior port protester trials in Olympia have ended in mistrial because of prosecutorial misconduct, not because of misconduct on the part of the defense. No wonder the judge gave the prosecutor an earful.

how can I get news about the trial?

Thanks for posting this Drew! I had no idea the trials were going to be so soon. Does anyone know of any way to stay up to date on what's going on in the courtroom?

That's the most poisonous comment

That's the most poisonous comment i've read in a long time! Yay jail! Yay suffering!

He was convicted of breaking the law

As much as I loath just about everything MBE blathers part of civil disobedience is being prepared to pay the consequences.
»

Details, details

If he had been doing a civil disobedience when he was arrested, your comment would be valid. He was not. He was targeted, and pepper sprayed, by the cops, who then made up a story about him being in the road. They beat and pepper sprayed several people. I saw that part myself. I never saw Shyam in the road at all.

If that's true, then who is

If that's true, then who is Shyam's friend? You know, the one who testified that Shyam had to jump out of the way of the Stryker. Y mght rcgnz t s th tstmny whch Hlds hd t mch sht n hs rs t py ttntn t.

Wasn't there for that testimony...

Were you? Or are you quoting the Olympian?

Disenvowling is

bull shit. stop it.

Oh yes, that's right. The

Oh yes, that's right. The Olympian, the police, in fact everyone but Drew and certain other idiots lie all the time.

On the flipside to your answer, were you with Shyam 24/7 to know for a fact he was framed?

The only reason I don't call BS on "If he had been doing a civil disobedience when he was arrested, your comment would be valid. He was not." is because he had already ran onto the sidewalk and was therefore no longer dodging Strykers at the exact instant he was arrested.
