Israel has relented and sent fuel into Gaza. I wonder what the response will be? Let’s see how Israel is repaid for this good deed? My bet would be more rockets and mortar shells fired into Israel FROM GAZA by the terrorists of Hamas. We shall see!

Israel eases blockade; Gaza lights on.
IBRAHIM BARZAK, Associated Press Writer

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel sent fuel to Gaza's power plant on Tuesday, easing its five-day blockade of the Palestinian territory amid growing international concern about a humanitarian crisis. ….

wait a minute

If I were a Martian reading this story and saw that people had a genuine concern about a "humanitarian crisis" due to an Israeli blockade and that it was due to this potential crisis that Israel "relented and sent fuel into Gaza", I would have a really difficult time characterizing such an action as a "good deed". That'd be like you telling me I committed a good deed if I had been forcibly starving somebody before finally relenting to peer pressure and allowing the person to eat. Way to go me...?

Actually, it's closer to the truth to say that you would need to be a Martian to believe that Israel is responsible for this "humanitarian crisis". The "humanitarian crisis" and the cutoff of oil shipments were in direct response to multiple and continuing firing of rockets and mortar shells FROM GAZA into ISRAEL.

Israel evacuates settlements in Gaza and the response is more terror attacks by Hamas. Every step towards peace that Israel makes is met by more terror by Hamas. Also, the Hamas' charter (written in 1988 and still in effect) calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. If Hamas had even the slightest desire for peace, this part of their charter would have been removed long ago.

I consider Israel's actions in easing the "embargo" to be very generous considering that the "government" of Gaza still pledges the total destruction of Israel. It's past time for Hamas to step forward, correct its charter, publicly acknowledge Israel's right to exist.

Why do Palestinians Launch Missiles

Jeff, let's assume for the sake of argument that you're right - Israel placed an embargo on fuel shipments because it was being attacked by 'Palestine.'

(Let's not mention the fact that Israel conducts asymmetrical attacks on Palestinian communities for the purpose of this argument.)

What is it that motivates people in Palestine to launch attacks against Israel/Israelis?

Fighters Turned Peace Activists Speak Out

As Gaza Plunges into Darkness, Israeli and Palestinian Fighters-Turned-Peace-Activists Speak Out
The United Nations is accusing Israel of collectively punishing the Palestinian population in Gaza by cutting off fuel supplies as part of a blockade of the Gaza Strip. In the midst of the deepening crisis, we speak with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists Yonatan Shapira and Bassam Aramin. They are from a group called Combatants for Peace that is made up of former fighters from both Israel and the Occupied Territories. Shapira is a former captain in the Israeli Air Force and Black Hawk pilot squadron. Aramin was an armed member of Fatah and spent seven years in an Israeli prison. His ten-year-old daughter Abir was shot dead by an Israeli soldier last year.

Hmmm...

Hi Jeff. Just curious on where you stand with the UN. Do you think the UN has any authority with regards to Israel? I seem to recall a debate or two of ours on another website, where you used non-compliance with UN resolutions as legal justification for invading and occupying Iraq. What about Israel?

Patience is a virtue.

Whenever you get around to it, Jeff, I was wondering if you might respond to my comments. I'm just wondering what your criteria are for acceptance of any UN resolutions...

Is the UN "relevant" or not? Are some of it's resolutions "less binding" or "less legal" to you?

Thanks!

Breakfast Club...

John Bender: Well, if you'd just answer the question.
Brian Johnson: Why don't you just answer the question?
Andrew Clark: Be honest.
John Bender: No big deal.
Brian Johnson: Yeah answer it.
Andrew Clark: Answer the question, Claire.
John Bender: Talk to us. Every one: C'mon, answer the question. Come on. Answer it.
John Bender: C'mon, it's easy. It's only one question.

hmm (reposted from another thread)

Israel considers Hamas a militant group, which it is. Israel considers militant groups bad. Most of us do, I imagine. Yet the decision to cut off supplies was in response to rocket attacks on Israeli militant groups, not military, but militant. Seems like a bit of a double standard. These rocket attacks would likely not happen if Israel cracked down on their own militant groups. Peace begets peace.

Maybe God will bless Isreal by request

A nice sign displayed in Olympia will probably do the trick.

Yes, I used sarcasm.  No, I did not intend on being nice.  Call it my first strike.  I've gotten lots of hits with two strikes on me.

you'd think there'd be a universal sigh of satisfaction at the destruction of a wall that effectivley imprisons an entire population, 50% of which is under the age of 15 (CIA World Fact Book).

Good timesI'm waiting to

Good times

I'm waiting to wake up one of these mornings to a report of "A large mushroom cloud can be seen from the Eastern sky in Cairo....". If someone asked me if there would ever be peace in Israel/Palestine, I would have to say, "Yes, right after all sides kill each other."

Humanity at it's best.
