Hamas wages Iran’s proxy war on Israel

Found at Timesonline.co.uk

Its targets, as Hamas intensified the rocket attacks, ranged from Qassam launchers in the northern Gaza Strip to the interior ministry in the centre of Gaza City. Last week, as the blasts and counter-blasts subsided, it was not only Hamas that was counting its losses. As many civilians as fighters had died.

Maybe

banning face masks would end the violence...  seriously though I am hard pressed to see either side creating a peace with each other.  Too many extremist firebrands on both sides.

Is this true?

Does Hamas really wage a proxy war on Israel?

For the sake of argument, what if Hamas is fighting a legitimate resistance, in self-defense, against Israeli aggression/oppression? Would self-defense against aggression/oppressive treatment by Israel be at all justified?

It seems to me that your assertion, of Hamas' role in fighting a proxy war for Iran, is speculation.

Upon what do you base your support for Israel's actions? Is it religious, political, otherwise?

»

they're not mutually exclusive

Hamas isn't waging a proxy war, Iran is supplying Hamas with arms to fight their proxy war with Israel. This has no bearing on whether or not members of Hamas are fighting what they regard as a legitimate resistance against Israel. The fighters in Afghanistan felt they were waging a legitimate resistance against USSR occupiers back in the day, and they were doing so as part of America's proxy war on the Soviet Union.

Iranian President Ahmedinijab has said on numerous occasions that he would like to see Israel's status as a country end, and when you combine that with the recent rocket attacks on Israel by Hamas using Iranian weapons...well. There's more evidence for Iran's involvement in this fight then evidence of them loudly sitting on the sidelines.

Of course, the U.S. has been using Israel to fight a proxy war for resources in the Middle East for quite sometime. As per the norm global politics trumps human life and our citizens start slinging blame in order to disassociate ourselves from our part in this ongoing atrocity.

sound analysis

Thank you for that sound analysis, enpen.

It is based on the evidence of...

political leaders through out the region denouncing Israel, demanding their destruction, aiding and abetting terrorists who act against Israel, actions taken by Palistinians which contradict the overly generous offers of a peace settlement by Israel to the Palistinians and the fact that terror is not self defense, it is terrorism. Would you be as willing to defend Palestine?

Israel poses a threat to Palestinians. Do you not support the right of Palestinians to self-determination and economic freewill? Do you understand and/or can you relate to the plight of the Palestinian people?

Do you believe that the Palestinian people, collectively, are terrorists?

Your questions...

I don't believe Israel poses the threat that you seem to suggest here. They retaliate and do so both preemptively and after the fact of an attack. Palestinians can do what ever they want, economically, socially, politically, and morally, right up until they start trying to destroy Israel and its people. Understanding: Israel offered under a brokered peace agreement to virtually everything the Palestinians demanded, and they rejected it, because part of the agreement was to stop the attacks on Israel. They determined it was in their (the Palestinians) best interest to reject peace in order to continue to wage war. I understand that the Koran demands the subjugation or murder of infidels and specifically cites Jews as an enemy to be subjugated or vanquished. I understand that leaders in virtually every other nation in the region demands that Israel be destroyed both politically and socially. No not every Palestinian is a terrorist. I don't believe that collectively they are terrorists. However, what percentage do you think passively support those Palestinians who launch rockets from school yards, and strap bombs to women and teens to blow up a market, and how many celebrate when a terrorists breaks in and starts gunning down students? Lots and lots of killing

I don't see it ending in my lifetime.

end to the killing

I see an end to the killing when enough people who care about it decide that they want to see it end. What we all have to realize is that we all play a part in this. What is happening in Israel is related to what happens here. Not only in terms of government, but in terms of how we live our lives and interact on a daily basis.

You can make a difference. I can make a difference. We can make a difference.

US AID?

Bert, are you you taking about foreign aid from the US to Israel?

Examples help me to understand what you mean and are trying to communicate.

I'm pretty sure that last year the US gave Israel 4 billion dollars in military and cash "aid".

aid to Israel

Hi Chad, yes I was, in part, talking about how the US Gov't provides significant and substantial material (military and otherwise) aid to Israel. It would be great if our government no longer provided support for Israel's policies of Zionism. Zionism is hurting both the people of Israel and the Palestinians.

However my post was also in regard to what we can do in our every day lives, in terms of interpersonal interactions, to further the goal of a peaceful and tolerant human society.

The occupation never ended.

Removing settlements is not the same thing as ending the military occupation.  Tanks still roam the Gazan streets on a regular basis, airstrikes are still common, and Gaza still has no control of its borders, seaports, or airports.

When the Israeli government talks about "reoccupying" Gaza, they really mean intensifying the existing occupation.

You're right

I think you're right. It would more appropriately be termed a "full scale invasion." I have heard that there is talk of a forced relocation for all 1.5 million residents of Gaza.
