I feel I owe some of you an explanation as to why I came back to Olyblog and did so incognito. There are many of you that I haven’t met, but consider friends of sorts. I also have met a few of you, and respect many more of you. Most of you know whom I’m talking about, as I have PM’d you, or had other conversations/contact with you. So it is to you that I apologize for what may appear to be deceptive behavior on my part. That certainly wasn’t my intent.
My leaving Olyblog had its genesis with the chief of police leading me to believe he wasn’t thrilled with my choice of screen names on the blog. Although he didn’t ask or direct me to change it, I figured it was the right thing to do. Since I was kind of burnt out with the blogging thing, I decided it was a good time to just quit. I asked Rick to delete my account, as I was concerned I might go months without looking at the blog, and not know if someone hacked my account. Rick agreed, and I became an occasional lurker.
Then the port protests happened, and I got sick and tired of all the lies and half truths being spread on Olyblog about the police. So I decided to come back. If I had wanted to be totally anonymous, I could have come back with a totally unrelated screen name. But I chose to use my initials. I also had on my account page for my personal info my first name and a winky face in the surname slot. So I really wasn’t trying to pull a fast one. I did want to distance myself from a direct connection to my profession though. My personal and political opinions inflame enough people here as it is, and I felt that my profession only worsened that to some degree. So I didn’t make a big announcement, but figured some people would realize who I was and would PM me, rather than out me. I know that outing someone here is frowned upon. A number of people did figure it out and I asked them not out me on the blog and they honored that. Then enpen effectively outed me and here we are.
When I decided to come back to Olyblog I told myself that I wouldn’t get involved with personal and political discussions here, as it was a recipe for disaster. But you progressives are such a funny bunch, and make me completely crazy, I couldn’t resist. So I was back into the blog thing just like before. My hope is to refrain from such in the future, but like an addict, it may not be easy.
I would appreciate it if we could keep the references to my previous screen name to a minimum. |

Without going into a bunch of detail
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Thu, 01/31/2008 - 8:32pm.JT and I have had a great conversation in PM today. He's still a damned Conservative, but given time with me, I'll fix him.
Let's all of us remember, this is supposed to be fun, folks. When it translates into real life there is something wrong. JT's personal life was dragged into the public arena. So was mine. Neither situation was right. Each of us personally has the choice as to how much private life we wish to share. No one else has the right to disclose that sort of stuff.
Now, as soon as I talk Mrs. Larry into letting me buy one of those cool motorbikes that JT posted about, I can just see, the Conservative Cop and the Liberal Non-Profit guy, riding into the sunset.

Submitted by Mike on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 7:05am.I think that OlyJohn is not taken as an identity here, would not cause you any problem with the PD and fits nicely in a number of ways. Give us an update on your bike project when you have a few minutes.
So relieved!
Submitted by Crusty on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 10:45am.I thought I was having a senior moment here, but from the first "JT" post I read, I believed it was you. You have a distinctive and succinct style and you don't clutter your writing with meaningless double-talk.
Let me demonstrate what I mean by double-talk.
Sometimes, in our politically correct efforts of inclusion we attempt to be compassionately considerate of each reader's emotive and intellectual acumen while still retaining our own belief integrity and fully representing to our greatest ability our unique collective wisdom of ideology blended with experience. For this purpose, our considered proactive participation in community collaberative dialogs is best served when allocuted fundamentally in subjective and esoteric verbage. The accumulated result and amalgamation of this contributive style can be difficult for some segment of the masses to digest, yet, due to its very convoluted nature, it achieves a qualitative effect of reduced statistical probability for personal umbrage.
Unlike the above paragraph, your ideas are clear. They invite discussion because people actually understand them enough to argue about them.
Christie
Thanks for the kind comments,
Submitted by JT on Mon, 02/04/2008 - 7:59am.and hopefully I won't add dysfunction to the blog like Rick alludes to, :-) A big step towards ending Rick's and maybe others perceptions in that regard is to stay away from social issue posts, and minimize comments in political posts.
