In recent years\, the buildup to a U.S. war on Iran has led to a series of hostilities and threats that have attempted to debilitate the country'\;s soverignty. Although outright war hasn'\;t been declared\, the actions of both the U.S. and Israel have went to a higher level of intensity in the waning months of the Bush administration.
Come to this Olympia Movement for Justice and Peace presentation featuring Dr. Zoltan Grossman who will give a powerpoint presentation on the U.S. imperialist history with Iran\, the country'\;s geography (places and people) and a basic update of recent events.
The presentation will start with an open floor for any community announcements people have. The event is free and OMJP will be accepting donations which can be tax-deductible.

I-69 is a NAFTA superhighway\, already constructed from Canada to Indianapolis and projected to extend down into Mexico. This highway is intended for the mass transportation of goods and resources\, to further exploit workers and the land\, and to lessen companies’ accountability in terms of human and environmental rights. In 2008\, they intend to begin construction of this road through southwestern Indiana\, evicting hundreds of rural families\, destroying hundreds of acres of land\, and devastating the habitats of countless species of animals\, many of them already endangered.

Next Sunday is Bike Your Watershed Day at Tumwater Historical Park (the lower park)\, and it looks like some folks are going to get some music going after. Here's the particulars\:
Bike the Deschutes Fiddle Music Open Session – July 27th 12\:30 to 2 pm (we can stay and play as long as we want)
Bike Your Watershed is a yearly environmental event that happens at Tumwater Historic Park in Tumwater\, Washington. Bike the Deschutes was fun and successful last year – 100 riders and more. From the response and planning we know it will be even better this year!

Biking starts from 8 am to 10 am and features three routes\: 5 miles around Capitol Lake\, 20 miles and 30 miles up into the Deschutes Watershed (partly along the Chehalis Western Trail).
Music starts at 11\:30 with Samba Olywa and continues at 12\:30 with an open fiddle music session. Come at 11\:30 to enjoy Samba Olywa\, come at 12\:30 to play\, or come in the morning and bike\, then stay for music!

I know this is early\, but I want to get the word out. We have Scott Lake Golf Course reserved for that morning. There will be a subsequent BBQ with boating\, swimming and what have you.
This is a family event and there will be activities for non-golfers. The tournament shouldn'\;t take but about 2-3 hours as we'\;re only playing 9 holes.
All proceeds after the bills are paid will be donated to the American Cancer Society\, of course.

In response to widespread public interest in finding an alternative to the proposed increase in height limits on Olympia’s downtown isthmus between Capital Lake and Budd Inlet\, a new group has formed to investigate the feasibility of acquiring the area of the proposed re-zone AND the Capital Tower Building for eventual incorporation into Heritage Park.
The new group called the “Steering Committee for Public Acquisition” is comprised\, in part\, of former Olympia Planning Commissioners who believe that the current height limit on the isthmus of 35 feet should not be increased to 90 feet as recently proposed.
The group also believes that as part of the current discussion of the future of the isthmus that the City Council and the State needs also to carefully consider the option of public ownership\, with just compensation to present owners\, for the area from the twin bridges to Water Street\, between 4th and 5th Avenues. This option would not change the status of Bay View Market\, the Olympia Yacht Club or the Oyster House.
If sufficient community interest exists\, the Steering Committee plans to create a non-profit association for the purpose of thoroughly investigating the ways and means to bring about the de-development and preservation of the isthmus as a great public space for the benefit of all. Their goal is to develop a public-private partnership to bring this about.
The Steering Committee will host a public meeting on August 4 from 7 to 9 pm in Room 2004 at the Olympia Community Center (222 Columbia St. NW) to link up with others who are supportive of this concept.
