..."Broken Limbs", and I'm chill'n at the Cherry St. Cafe watch'n this DVD, and it makes me think about the history of my own family in Washington State as turn-of-the-century dairy farmers, so I'd suggest a view if anyone wants to get this guy's perspective-

Makes me wonder:

Is the small farm doomed in America?

How much will it take before families negotiate directly with farmers for the preservation of green spaces and local production of foodstuffs?

How long before neighborhood associations purchase farms to ensure a flow of produce into cities?

Sit at the cafe and then share a pen

smile

ponder sea-level-rise (and regret)

(and regret) not running a harder race

but knowing

that not to race is the only path to really winning

I find the more I disconnect the idea of time with ideas of economics in my life, the "better off" I am-

I think that neo-economic rational is a faulty idiom, and the assumption that the free market promotes equality in peoples (essentially structural freedom), is "bunk".

As a CHS parent, I just wanted to thank Sarah, Emmett and JT for the steps they took yesterday after receiving Anya Adora's posts.

Emmett, I could really sense your emotions in your comments and posts yesterday and I want you to know you did all you knew to and could do and you did it quickly and should be proud of yourself. You may have adverted a tragic situation.

Sarah, thank you for bringing the posts to the attention of others. You may have adverted a tragic situation as well.

JT, you know I love ya man!  Thanks for paying attention to Emmett and Sarah and acting on this tip! You always have my admiration!

If I missed anybody else involved, my apologies and thanks to you as well!

This situation could have been a disaster and thanks to those who were willing to step up when their red flags went up, you may have saved one or many students & faculty from harm!

On behalf of my daughter and family, you're our heros!

XO!

Jules

Strong feelings surround the concept of ethnic race and also surround the concept of sincerity.

What constitutes sincerity and is this something that "whites" just don't possess?  I don't understand this mindset...

As a caucasian male (and part-time census worker), I am constantly challenged to define my sense of self, and while I sincerely feel like I am a "native" here is America, I realize that this is in fact a very offensive concept for many.

Why?

What human makes a choice of how & when to be born?

...and more importantly, what worth is there to cultural placedness?

I am motivated to assert that the sincere feelings I have with regards to my native land are just as valid and real as the feelings others have, but I'd like to hear what others think-

It looks like Oly2012 and its many members have come out in support of Triway's isthmus project. From a recent update to their website:

With respect to the current application for an Urban Waterfront Housing rezone for nine parcels of property on the isthmus, only two of the nine parcels should be considered for additional heights by the City Council. Those two parcels are now occupied by former public service buildings and parking lots, just west of the Capital Center building. If the Council determines that the mixed-use development proposal (Larida Passage) for these two parcels is consistent with the City’s comprehensive plan, it should require a binding site plan and rigorous architectural review -- and the City should commit to the proposal to remove the Capital Center building and acquire the vacant parcels across the street, and construct the park/performance space to expand the view corridor. This action will prevent “walling off the waterfront”, and actually enhance the views and use of the isthmus.

I'm shocked. Absolutely flabbergasted. Who would have thunk it?
